The Emerge app is built up by many modules, or sessions as we call them (as in coaching ‘sessions’), which focus on different facets of leadership and personal development. The first five modules are called Be Your Full Potential, Feeling Small, Being Hard on Yourself, Empowering Others, and Getting the Support you Need.

The first session, Be Your Full Potential, taps you into your vision of the leader you want to become. It helps you activate, or remember if you’ve forgotten, your particular passions and take the first steps to getting there.

For many people, taking seriously their vision for how they most want to live is a radical act, and their inner response is incredulousness - not believing that they have what it takes or that it’s even possible. This is why the second session, Feeling Small, helps you acknowledge and work head-on with these feelings of inadequacy, making their impact on your beliefs and behavior more conscious, and eventually transforming them into openness, connection, and the ability to get guidance from other people.

Being Hard on Yourself works with the opposite side of that dynamic, the inner critic that puts you down. The only reason we ever feel inadequate is because we’ve internalized once-external voices telling us we’re not good enough. This becomes our own inner critic that we keep beating ourselves up with, but it doesn’t have to run our lives. In fact, we can learn to use that critical energy in positive ways, to continually improve our lives and the lives of those around us, but in a way that feels really good.

In Empowering Others we switch from focusing on ourselves to focusing on others. Users’ learn to see their colleagues’ and friends’ unique gifts and encourage them to grow even further. This session gets embedded in your day-to-day life when the app guides you through interviewing someone you’re close to in order to learn more about their biggest contributions to others.

Getting the Support you Need comes full circle by asking you to again reflect on your full potential and now think of the people who can help you get there. Committing to improving our leadership in concrete ways to people who can practically help us get there supercharges both our motivation and our actual follow-through.

In all of the sessions the Emerge app doesn’t just help you describe these different inner qualities, it guides you through becoming them using selfie videos and role play. By acting out these inner dynamics you get more insight into how they play off one another to create your experience of life and leadership, transform the negative ones into their basic positive virtues, and grow the positive ones that are in line with the leader you want to become. All of this guided role play and perspective taking helps you get freer and more capable at continually shaping your own life.

The first five sessions in the Emerge program increase confidence, vision, and empathy, helping you see your potentials and give and receive support in order to get there. Emerge currently contains these five sessions, but starting in 2016 we’ll build a new session every month, and keep building them out forever. We’ve already got plans for the first 30 sessions and can’t wait to build and test them. To try it out, download the Emerge app.
