What if the secret to becoming your best self isn’t found within but by looking outward first? In this Moments of Realization episode, we explore four powerful steps to closing the gap between who you are and who you’ve always wanted to be. Whether you’re stuck in a pattern or standing at the edge of something bigger than you feel ready for, this one is worth a watch. I hope it resonates with you too!

Today on Moments of Realization, How to Become the Person You’ve Always Wanted to Be. We’ve all heard the advice – “be yourself, don’t copy anyone else”. But what if emulating others is good for you somehow? Admiring the best in others can actually help us become more fully ourselves.

First - see what you believe about yourself.

Our minds like limits, particularly an answer to the question “who am I”? We create stories about who we are and what we are capable of.  Notice the story you tell about you and then hold it more lightly.

Second- lift the shame.

Aspiration can trigger comparison, as in “I’m not enough yet”. Find someone you trust who believes in you, admit your judgments and doubts, feel the relief of being held as okay exactly as you are. When you lift shame, it becomes easier to want more without believing something is wrong with who you are now.

Third- say yes to the impossible.

Breakthrough moments usually follow through some kind of a stretch from stepping into something bigger than you feel ready for. Picture a person you genuinely admire and commit with a deep inner yes to embody the qualities they might bring to this challenge. This will reveal capacities you didn’t know you had.

Fourth- celebrate the growth.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is to help people acknowledge their own growth.

I’m sure you can see ways large and small where you have become the person you always wanted to be. Enjoy the sweetness of those moments.

Best,

David Lesser
